Remember, God loves you
In 2009, when I read God's words of love from Isaiah 43, I thought of my older son and the difficulty he going through. Separated by over 1,000 miles, I couldn't comfort him with hugs. Instead, I crafted a poem--a collection of words--to encourage him based on the verses that opened Isaiah 43.
But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
You are precious in my yes, and I love you.
Selections from Isaiah 43:1-4 ESV
About a year later, our entire family was in a desperate place. My younger son died, by suicide. We planned a funeral. The song, God Will Make a Way, based on Isaiah 43:19, was played. My poem was read. It reminds us that God's love longs for us to desire Him and His presence more than comfort in this life.
When trials overwhelm, remember—I love you. With My own hands I created you. You are mine. Then, in love, I redeemed you and spoke to you individually, by name. Simply put, I love you a thousand times over.
You may think I should keep you from the pain and heartache you are in. No, that is not My way. That is not genuine love. My love is too strong to keep you from life’s troubles. Remember, I love you a thousand times over.
In my love for you, I join you in the ‘fire and the flood,’ staying with you, holding you close to keep you from harm. Sometimes I even carry you, as a shepherd does a lamb. Remember, I love you a thousand times over.
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19
May you sense God’s great love for you and know you are precious to Him. Happy Valentine’s, Day!
